RE-ENACTMENT OF THE LITTLE BIGHORN BATTLE 2005
|
To see one re-enactment is probably all most visitor's to Hardin and The Little Bighorn Battlefield can probably achieve if they only have the one day. However I had set myself the goal of attending two - The Real Bird Re-enactment that takes place at Medicine Tail Ford and the Hardin Battle Re-enactment that takes place 6 miles outside the town of Hardin - and in between I had to visit the Custer Battlefield Museum at Garryowen. A tall order and I was a little late at the Hardin event, missing the first five minutes. Of course it's not often you get to meet two General Custer's in one day but I got the opportunity to speak to both Steve Alexander and Tony Austin both of whom play the part of the General. Although having two events allows for a different interpretation I would like to have seen one re-enactment but with all participants taking part - the impact may well have been more spectacular. I look forward to seeing my next re-enactment with more time to spare - preferably on alternative days. Photographs - Kevin Galvin |
